Is there any reason to fill in your long form when a CV and cover letter will convey the same information and I have that prepared already?

Hey collyw, thanks for the interest in applying.

The typeform I linked in the parent post is our general hiring form, it's visited by more people than just people from HN. Therefore, we try to make it as simple as possible to apply, even if you don't necessary have a CV ready to go.

However, if you don't want to fill out the form, you can always send a small email to jobs@typeform.com or victor@typeform.com with your CV and cover letter and we'll handle it as well.

OK, thanks.

I got contacted by your HR staff a while ago, but I am getting kind of annoyed by the "just complete this coding test / large online form" before technical staff will even speak to me.

Its definitely put me off applying to a few places recently as I don't want to spend an hour and a half just to get a chance to interview somewhere.

The form would take you a couple of minutes to complete. Also, the test we have currently, doesn't take more than one hour if you know what you're doing. Then you get to speak with the appropriate team.

We know that we're not the best in our application process but since we have a lot of applicants, we need to try to save our own time as well as the candidates time. Hence, a very short and simple test for people to complete.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback, it'll help us to our process smoother.

Could you please comment on salary ranges? Barcelona seems a nice place to live, but low salaries (and high prices) compared to northern Europe is concerning.

I'm sorry but at this point, I cannot. But we're having market level salaries for Barcelona and the low salary/high prices you mention is simply not true. Barcelona and Spain in general has a better salary/cost of living ratio compared to northern Europe (Sweden specifically, since I'm from there but now living in Barcelona)

Very low salaries for tech jobs in Barcelona are a thing from the past. Now there's high competition in the city to attract the best talent.

For instance, Senior Rails or Symfony Backend Engineer market salary is around 45K € [1]. I've seen job offers at the job board I maintain (www.jobsbcn.com) offering up to 70K€ salary for these positions.

Nevertheless, it's not all about the money, flexible working hours and many other perks are also offered at many Startups.

Also, working next to the beach and having a swim at lunch time (I've been working in one of those companies...) or being less than a two hour drive from ski resorts is a plus you cannot disregard, specially if your city of origin does not offer these qualities.

[1] Please, let me clarify that 45K is not as much as you would be paid in Berlin. Also, housing is cheaper there too. But those are different cities with different things to offer.
