Exactly what I was thinking but per another HN comment, the board doesn't have any share in the company. It's still very fishy

Military contract or sharing raw data with CIA, Palantir, Mossad, etc. would explain why they intervened (and why Sam and Greg couldn’t be candid: gag order).

I probably should retract all those, but I want to argue that the board claiming "not candid" was (as of what we know now) entirely off.
