I think having a single "sub" in the beginning is fundamental int he beginning. Otherwise you just have dozens of sub-forums that are ghost towns. Eventually moving to discreet sub-forums when traffic increases seems like a reasonable compromise.

But that would mean that initially, I have to wade through all kinds of worthless annoying stuff. I suspect it will be 40% politics, 30% sportsball, 20% Kardashians, 9% car culture, and 1% other. I'm going to give up before we ever get to sub-forums.
