It's a hybrid model, and I'd be curious if people like this or not as it's been something I'm fiddling with.

Note that when you vote, you upvote the tag itself. The vote within the tag determines its order when browsing the tag itself. So if something is tagged with #formula1 and has 483 upvotes for the tag, it will appear high in the #formula1 list view. If it's also tagged with #funny with 1 upvote, it will appear low in the #funny list despite the high votes on #formula1.

That is a pretty good solution to the relevant tags and spam issues I was worried about. Good thinking there. One half of my issues gone.

The single conversation is still a big problem for me. I really like being able to have conversations within a specific community and get specific angles on a topic. I also like to look at a conversation on the same topic in different subreddits to see how different communities react. It's not to say that one way is inhertly better but more of a personal preference.

Yah the main feature I'm looking for on your site is to be able to create my own subs for different topics like I have on Reddit. I like the pay to vote feature, but missing subs is really a deal breaker.

Except that’s kind of the whole problem with Reddit; little fiefdoms developed where some users controlled the content other users consumed.

It’s not how anyone would actively choose to create a network now, knowing what we know about how often people abuse power online.

Out of interest if you vote for the same content multiple times (for its multiple tags), does that count as one vote or many in the payment calculation?

Maybe if you could tag the root comments the same way? So when you come from browsing #formula1 you see #formula1 tagged comments first? And when you start a new root comment it defaults to being tagged from where you came from? But you could also add #funny if it is a funny comment? That could be cool

To get two conversations it could just be posted twice with different tags? It's then up to the poster to decide in that case, not sure if that solves your problem.

There's still no incentive here to keep tags at a minimum. What if you'd use the lowest upvote score of all tags, for all tags? Optionally corrected for sub size. So min(corrected(upvotes in #formula1), corrected(upvotes in #funny)).
