Do you know of any intel based machines that work well with thunderbolt docks and are worth considering?

True, but often you can use type c support.

I'm using a type c plug to run my monitor, USB hub and charge my amd laptop right now

Asus g14

I should specify these are USB-C thunderbolt docks, attached to LG 4K Ultrafine monitors + USB Keyboard and mouse.

The whole USB-C/Thunderbolt split still confuses me so apologies if I'm making terminology mistakes :)

This particular laptop doesn’t have USB-C DisplayPort support either. It does have Power Delivery though, I’ve measured up to 90W.

Which is a real shame, I'm quite determined to have a single cable AMD model for my next laptop. Currently the best lineups for that seem to be Lenovo ThinkPads and Yogas.

Very happy with my (5th generation) ThinkPad X1 Carbon running NixOS and connected to a Toshiba Thunderbolt 3 dock. Everything works just perfectly.
