I'm a software engineering manager with a bottom-up, collaborative style, focused on building and supporting resilient, empathetic, business-aware engineering teams who love what they do. I've worked in software since ~2011 and have worked with many tech stacks during that time- from PHP to Scala and Next.js to Rails. I've been fully remote since 2016 and have hired and managed globally remote team members at multiple companies.
I've spent the majority of my career in venture-funded b2b SaaS, but I'm highly-interested in working with any companies-- both bootstrapped and funded-- who are serious about their engineering teams communicating directly with their customers. If you're looking for soloed engineering processes where the engineers don't talk to customers directly, I'm probably not the right fit.
On the dev side, I generally prefer buying over building, readable over concise, fast over perfect, and empathy over all.
On the management side, I encourage ownership and an extreme level of connection and understanding of customer problems. I'm big on transparent retros and fostering a deep understanding of the business purpose behind the work we do. This last year, I worked with leadership to arrange for all of my development team (a few per visit) to to travel to customer on-sites with me and our design counterpart to do technical discovery and ask questions in order to find product/market fit around an important AI initiative. The results were so effective and the learning so valuable that the CEO ended up rolling out the program across the entire company.
If this sounds like the type of culture that you have or wish to build, I'd love to hear from you.
