I think this problem existed before AI. At least in my current job, there is constant, unrelenting demand for fast results. “Multi-day deep thinking” sounds like an outrageous luxury, at least in my current job.

Which is a reason for software becoming worse across the board. Just look at Windows. The "go go go" culture is ruinous to products.

this is why productivity is a word that should really just be reserved for work contexts, and personal time is better used for feeding "The Thinker"

Even 30 years ago when I started in the industry, most jobs required very little deep thinking. All of mine has been done on personal projects. Thats just the reality of the typical software engineering job.
