I would think that a user competent to use and want sync thing, is perfectly capable of depending on f droid as a source for the apk.
Can that not be enough of a distribution channel.

I guess we will find out in the next couple of months as people either migrate to the F-Droid based "syncthing-fork" or move to a different sync tool.
