This is not true in Western Australia, where Poker machines are illegal everywhere other than the one casino.

That's fair, West Australia represents 3 million of Australias 26 million people.

The comment above tragically is true for most of the country.

Religious lobbying + labor protections. This is a state that prior to 2012 had no sunday retail trading (with some exceptions).

Also the WA state has alternate revenue sources (mining royalties) that the other Australian states do not.

There is gambling in WA, just not physical slot machines/TABs/keno in every licensed venue.
