Therapists are educated and trained to help alleviate mental-health issues, and their licenses can be revoked for malpractice. Their livelihood partially depends on ethics and honest effort.

None of those safeguards are in place for AI companies.

And most of them suck. Imagine if you bought a class of hardware that needed to be swapped constantly, has no QC and dubious reviews, with many "works on my machine" comments saying it worked for them. Little did they know it just reported it was fine and was also broken for them.

The liability for a bad therapist or psychologist is very low, I have never heard of them getting revoked for being bad therapists. If if was true then bad therapists wouldn't exist. I would not be surprised if they ceased to exist in the near future with AI being consistent, and much better quality.

"Works on my machine" for therapists is not a bug or a problem. People's needs are highly individual, and the best therapist will be, too.

Exactly. I know there has been research on the effectiveness on different types of talk therapy and by far the most important factor (much more than any specific theory the practitioner uses) is the "fit" between therapist and patient.
