EV's are nowhere close to "nearly a ton heavier".

The Ford Lightning with the long range battery are about 1,000 pounds heavier than a gasoline F-150 SuperCrew.

A Telsa Model 3 is about 400 pounds heavier than a BMW 3.

Obviously there's variance between models but comparing the Hummer EV to the H3 it's nearly double the weight, nearly two tons heavier.

Hummer EV isn't really a representative EV though, is it? There are less than 3,000 EV Hummers on the road, compared to, for example, almost a million Tesla Model 3s. The Model 3 battery is about 1,000 lbs.
