Dimmable bulbs and 3-way lamps are not compatible:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-way_lamp. The electrical principles are not the same —- a three way bulb has a different socket contact configuration to accept different wattages at each of the three levels. Supposedly LED 3 way bulbs exist but I’ve never seen one in the wild.
