It's a terrible analogy because most cabinet boxes are made out of plywood not because it's cheaper, but because it has better structural qualities versus -- what -- solid planks for the back of a dresser?

The plywood starts flatter, is less resistant to warping, is just straight up more dimensionally stable, and as strong if not stronger than some species of wood that are used in carpentry.

Yeah, definitely a sloppy analogy ironically enough. But as a woodworker I’ve realize most people when they hear plywood they’re really thinking OSB or cheap particle board. Quality high-ply with a hardwood outer layer isn’t in their vocabulary. So the analogy sorta works.

I don't think Mr. Jobs actually knew carpentry and may have meant a different kind of material when he said plywood.
