From my memories of that UI design shift, nobody cared much about text messages in particular, because we generally hated
all of the flattened, vivid color and white text graphics. But it's been a while, maybe I'm misremembering how annoyed people were. That was when we lost skeuomorphic design, as I recall, which some people were/are very attracted to.
