If you stop progress in AI in US other countries will go ahead in that field. US cannot loss and give lead in AI to other countries. Instead it is better to focus on minimization of the harm by AI in other ways. For example, if the fake information is the problem instead it is better to focus on the education of the people about fake information and how to identify it.
