Interesting conversation ... but I don't think this is as disastrous for the world as other commentators seem to feel. First, I don't think OpenAI is really far ahead (or even ahead at all) of other companies (particularly Google). And maybe I'm naive, but I don't think they have some special insights either about how to build models ... they just trained one model using a lot of resources and data. But other organizations know how to gather data and train models too.
And nothing stops us from building more models in the open ... nor from pooling our resources and training something for the community.
Things are not so dire. We are okay.
