Even if there ends up being no difference between the two, being able to opt in to see more of the deleted material makes the moderators much more accountable.
I have no idea if this community would be improved with less moderation because I'm blind to most of its results.

You can actually choose to see dead comments from your profile, which shows the results of some moderation decisions (I believe, but may be wrong, that some comments are also completely deleted, such as outright spam).
