Some things that might make travel feel awesome that have nothing to do with the travel per-se (and can be replicated at home).

1. You are taking a break from work.

2. You are travelling light - instead of 2 tonnes of 'stuff' to look after, you have a backpack or small suitcase, and very little to take care of.

3. You are engaged to your ideal level. For some people that means seeing a couple of sights, for others that means 100 miles of mountain biking in a day. But you've planned it for your fitness / energy levels and for what 'unwinding' means to you. (As opposed to work where your bosses are trying to extract from you, or if you are like me you are putting pressure on yourself).

4. You see more of the daylight (not stuck in office).

I would say that working fewer hours and WFH can give many of the nice feelings of being on a holiday. I think a lot of people want to travel because working life sucks alot. The old way - stuck in an office prison for 9 hours a day plus a train or bus or car 'cage' for another 1-2 hours it is no surprise that people want to get away from that. The narrative "I want to travel, be cultured, I want to see the world etc." then kicks in.
