The immediate takeaway from this article is that if any of these threat actors are on your radar and you have an I phone then you should delete iMessage.

I just disabled iMessages and FaceTime ... I don't actively use them anyway and I have a feeling Apple applies more scrutiny to 3rds party apps than theirs (Whatsapp , signal ...)

I don't know if disabling iMessages is enough though in this case.
