that's the culture war playing out, with bad agents all around. somebody posts a tweet linking outlaw motorcycle gangs to riots, gets flagged, i post a rebuttal in the same thread, also get flagged. it's a site full of narcissist "oh no, somebody has a different opinion from mine!"

This place has really changed for the worse recently. Only a few months ago I was talking about how HN still serves better content and higher quality discussions then places like Reddit, but it appears that's no longer the case. The same inflammatory crap (along with the abuse of the platform's voting and flagging features) have made their way here and I don't think it's going away. It's less "I disagree, here's why" and more of the "fuck you, you're wrong and an idiot!" type mentality becoming prominent.
