This isn't unprecedented: for instance, the Mozilla Foundation owns the Mozilla Corporation, and IKEA is owned by a non-profit. (I mention these two examples precisely because it's common to find Mozilla's corporate structure reasonable and IKEA's corporate structure unreasonable.)
