Actually, I think the numbers will go down rather than up (our present administration notwithstanding). About the only thing that Republicans and Democrats can agree on is that the criminal justice system is seriously broken. Longer sentences and more jails hasn't worked. The war on drugs? We lost that long ago. So many lives wasted on mandatory minimum sentences (eliminating all judicial discretion), drug arrests (many for a drug that's being widely decriminalized). I have experienced positive changes in the 15 years since I was released. The cultural zeitgeist is evolving rapidly, for the better. There's reason to be optimistic.
