Good news:

- There are physical buttons (not many)

- It still supports CarPlay (somehow), and

- > The car will recognize the driver and adjust the settings accordingly. And the interior displays can be configured to as much — or as little — information as desired.

However, the speedometer and other critical info will also be driven by this Android system. Hope it doesn’t “crash”

I believe that it's able to support Carplay because Android is just the UI dev layer. It's not an all or nothing scenario.

Yeah this is a funny situation where Google's brand naming strategy does them no favors: Android Auto (their CarPlay equivalent) != Android Automotive (their Car OS) and Android Automotive supports both Android Auto and Apple's CarPlay, except when turned off (as GM is doing for reasons that escape everyone except presumably GM executives).
