I think Mazda would rather us pay for their subscription connected car service, which they’re currently piloting for free for everyone. It lets me start, lock, unlock and see fuel/tire pressure info for my 2021 CX-30. Remote start is great to have, but how many of us will pay ~$5/mo for the privilege?

A whole lot less once they realize that there was a free alternative that got killed.

Boomers aren’t going to live forever and younger generations pay attention to these things.

I wouldn’t buy a Mazda again based on this. I know it may not be oceans of people, but I used to really like Mazdas and am a former customer.

I don't think this was a free alternative; It was a library for the same APIs the official app would use. If they add a subscription model it would (almost) certainly be server-side and you'd still need to be an authorized user to use the API.

All they did was screw over existing owners / future subscribers.
