CYC's aim to capture common sense knowledge is admirable, but its symbolic approach seems limited. Modern AI's success with statistical learning on massive datasets suggests an alternative path. Integrating the two approaches - symbolic knowledge representation and data-driven learning - could be a promising direction for AI reasoning.
