I used to be very enthusiastic about the tech industry and the Silicon Valley culture before getting into it, but having worked in tech for a while I feel very demoralized and disillusioned with all the blatant lies and hypocrisy that seems central to business.

I wouldn’t mind ruthless anti-competitive approaches to business as much, but the hypocrisy is really demoralizing.

I also got quite disillusioned a few times and I probably will again. What helped me regain a bit of hope again was looking at what the open source community is up to (stuff like sourcehub instead of Github for example). I get joy from moving away from big monopolistic orgs to smaller projects, it feels quite liberating. Recently I also moved away from vscode back to vim and that has been fun to even if vim requires a bit more work. There is something freeing about using a different paradigm, one that isn’t so obsessed about reach and usability but instead on expressability and growth. It reminds me of the internet I used to love rather than the one I grew to hate. Maybe that will help you a bit as well?
