Since these pages will likely be updated, here are the archived links as proof of this happening:

Some people probably think "nobody uses Bing", but Bing powers a lot of different search engines (Yahoo, Ecosia, AOL, DuckDuckGo, and more). It's the default search engine on millions of devices (Windows, and even if you change it, Windows search still uses it; Xbox uses it as well.)

Looks like it has now been updated and returns images of various tanks and male athletes, but still no images of what seems most relevant to the phrase - the iconic Tiananmen Square photograph that goes by that name.

Wow. Yup, the results are being tweaked as we speak, which in-and-of-itself its pretty interesting actually i.e. that the BING keepers manipulate specific results on-the-fly.

I'm not sure that's reassuring/comforting!

What do you mean my manipulate? That implies there is some kind of "natural" order that is being deviated from, which there isn't. It's all defined by the "bing keepers".

Manipulate as in: the general ranking algorithms were explicitly overridden for a very specific search phase.

I guess it shouldn't really surprise anyone that they have this capability for edge cases, but it begs the question what other results are being manipulated for political or corporate self interest.

I think one should also not have any illusion that the general ranking algorithm is somehow special and untarnished. It is also optimized for Bing revenue, not any kind of higher ideal.

How can you come to the conclusion that Bing is solely optimized for revenue?

What incentive does Bing have to hide evidence of a failed CIA coup attempt in China?

Do you seriously believe that the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 were backed by the CIA? What evidence do you have?

Western intelligence generally rush to protect their assets, or at least they used to...

These regime change attempts have been ongoing for about a century, opium/heroin dealers/criminals and their western partners/suppliers didn't like getting shutdown by the Chinese government, primarily Mao.

When people ask, "Why is China a Surveillance State?", this is why...
