You should setup donations ASAP. I think that now is a good time to do that since a lot of Rust users are somewhat upset by the recent events and would be willing to help out.

We need the foundation to exist before we can accept donations, unfortunately. And that takes time.

Of course that's true for accepting donations, but what about contributions that aren't treated as donations? Or could another foundation receive donations and hold them in trust until the new foundation is able to receive them? Is the new foundation actually expected to be in immediate need of funds such that this would be worth considering?
